Nowadays, it is very rare that we as movie goers are treated to a brand new and original concept/idea for a science-fiction movie. You can probably count on two hands the amount of times in the past decade that this has occurred.
And you would probably struggle to need to use both hands if you were counting the ones that were actually good.
But regardless of this, 'The Creator' is exactly what it comes across as. A good, solid, brand new and original science-fiction story.
John David Washington serves as Joshua, an ex-special forces agent who once helped his country fight in the war between humans and artificial intelligence in the battle for existence.
Although for those members of the audience that aren't particularly fond of science-fiction movies, it wouldn't be ridiculous to assume that you wouldn't enjoy this film before giving it a chance.
However, after viewing, it is clear to see that 'The Creator' is so much more than just science-fiction. In fact, there are several subjects touched within the 135 minute run time of this film such as:
What would you do for the love of your life?
Can you make personal sacrifices that are for the greater good?
Are humans the modern day enemy of ourselves?
Therefore, anyone who enters the cinema intending on seeing the same old sci-fi that they have seen re-done over and over again a thousand times before, they are sadly mistaken.
It could be said that 'The Creator' is an in-depth take on what society comes across in today's modern day age.
With the upcoming and quickly-progressing capabilities of artificial intelligence and humans lack of worry to the threat it could potentially cause, who's to say that in a few decades time the plot of this film isn't a possibility?
But without delving too deep into the mind of Gareth Edwards and his political take on modern-day society and the evolution of AI, 'The Creator' is still an intensely emotional film that is destined to touch a nerve.
It would be harsh to discuss this film and not mention the stunning visual effects scattered throughout. For a film that takes place around 40 years from now, you would expect some pretty impressive effects, and on this front the film certainly delivered.
John David Washington does nothing more than a solid job of portraying the protagonist in the film. Special forces agents are trained to keep their emotions intact, but definitely not as well as Washington does in this movie.
Special credit must go out to Madeleine Yuna Voyles who provides a very impressive turn as Alphie the AI robot who could make or break the future of both sides of the human vs AI battle for existence.
Alongside the stunning visual effects and impressive breakthrough performances from Madeleine Yuna Voyles, 'The Creator' is a good original story that really promotes the kind of stories that need to be told and want to be heard in the foreseeable future.
The film maintains a balanced storyline that has a handful of plot twists scattered throughout, whilst also discussing a number of thought-provoking themes that are destined to get the audiences brains warmed-up.
