Oscars 2024: A Second Academy Award For Emma Stone?

The best Actress category at this years annual Academy Awards is one of the most talented line ups that we have seen over the past few years.

Whether it is a woman attempting to be murdered by her husband, a woman having to deal with her husband's gay affairs or a woman in possession of a newborn's brain, the performances throughout this category will without a doubt be remembered for years to come.

Regardless of the outcome on March 10th, history has already been made throughout the Best Actress category this year as Lily Gladstone became the first Native American woman to be nominated for an Oscar, for her performance in Martin Scorsese's 'Killers Of The Flower Moon'.

But Gladstone has no intentions of being nominated and making an appearance at this years Academy Awards, as the Native American actress currently possesses a strong chance of taking home the award.

Gladstone won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama back in January which initially labelled her as the front runner for the award. As well as this, the actress also has a Critics Choice and SAG nomination to her name, despite losing out on the Critics Choice award just a few weeks ago.

Who did Gladstone lose to, you may ask? The answer would be none other than Emma Stone.

Much like Gladstone, Stone is also in current possession of a strong chance of taking home the award, to the point where the category has almost formed into a two-horse race. The American actress received her 4th and 5th nomination (Best Actress and Best Picture) for her work as Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos' 'Poor Things'.

Stone has received a smothering of nominations and positive responses for her performance as Bella Baxter, winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy and the Critic's Choice award for Best Leading Actress.

The film itself received a total of 11 nominations, the second most of the event, including a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Stone's co-star Mark Ruffalo. So it goes without saying that the film was a heavy hit at this year's Oscar nominations.

And although the pursuit for this years Best Actress Oscar does seem to be shaping down into a two-horse race between Stone and Gladstone, it would be ridiculous to rule out Carey Mulligan for her role in Netflix's 'Maestro'.

The British actress serves an exceptional performance alongside Bradley Cooper as Leonard Bernstein's wife, Felicia Montealegre. And although Mulligan is yet to take home any major pre-curser awards for her performance, it would be rude to completely rule the actress out of the race in this year's category.

Bookmakers currently have Emma Stone as the frontrunner to take home the award for her performance as Bella Baxter. This would provide Stone with her second Best Actress Oscar in the space of 7 years. Which is unusual for someone of her age to possess.

Whereas if either Mulligan or Gladstone were to win on the night, this would make them first time Academy Award winners, which essentially adds to their chances of winning given that the Academy tend to feel the need to award nominees without an Oscar to their name.

Who do you think will take home the award?
