The annual event in which the Hollywood Foreign Press take time out of their schedule to award people within the film and television industry for the work produced over the course of the last twelve months.
For some, it is nice to see people's favourite actors, directors, writers being recognised for their work through the form of a nomination or maybe even a win. But for others, the Golden Globes serve as a good insight as to what to expect at the annual Academy Awards.
And if there was very little clarity as to which movie would be the most victorious at the 2024 Academy Awards, there certainly is now.
It was Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' that ended up taking the night by storm as the blockbuster biopic took home a total of 5 awards, more than any other picture nominated at the awards event.
These wins came in categories such as Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Score, Best Director and a first Best Actor in a Leading Role - Drama win for Christopher Nolan's right-hand man, Cillian Murphy.
The film was nominated for a total of 8 awards on the night, with recognition being shown for Emily Blunt in the supporting actress category for her performance as Kitty Oppenheimer. However the English actress lost out to 'The Holdovers' Da'Vine Joy Randolph.
Randolph wasn't the only actor to receive an award on the night for their work in Alexander Payne's heart-warming comedy, as lead actor, Paul Giamatti, took home the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role - Comedy or Musical.
2024 was the first year following the introduction of the 'Cinematic and Box Office Achievement' category at the Golden Globes, with intentions of awarding movies that generate the most revenue at movie theaters and put people in seats.
This year the award was presented to Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie', which would go on to be one of the two awards the movie won on the night. The second of which being for Billie Eilish and FINNEAS' 'What Was I made For?' in the Best Original Song category.
The momentum surrounding Lily Gladstone for her work in Martin Scorsese's 'Killers Of The Flower Moon' seems to be surpassing every obstacle with ease as the actress took home the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama.
The American actress then delivered a very heart-warming speech on the Golden Globe stage in which she paid tribute to the BlackFeet language of the American Native community.
I just spoke a bit of BlackFeet language. A beautiful community that raised me and encouraged me to keep doing this. My Mom, although she's not BlackFeet, worked tirelessly to get our language into our classroom. - Lily Gladstone.
Although it was Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' that took home the most awards on the night, Yorgos Lanthimos' 'Poor Things' also had it's say in the race for Best Picture as the film was awarded in two categories.
One of which, recognising the work of Emma Stone as Bella baxter in the Best Actress in a Leading Role - Musical or Comedy category, and the other being in the Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy category.
Lanthimos' 'Poor Things' follows the story of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a woman in a 30-year-old body that possesses the mind of a toddler once it is replaced by a Frankenstein-like scientist, Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). The movie is based on the 1992 novel by Alasdair Gray, of the same title.
