One of the scariest movies of the past decade will finally see it's highly-anticipated sequel hit cinema screens on October 18th. And if the trailer is anything to go by, fans can expect to be as frightened as they once were when sitting down to see Parker Finn's 'Smile' for the first time.
The 2022 horror starred Sosie Bacon as a nurse working at a mental facility whose life is turned upside down the moment one of her patients commits suicide in the most unpleasant of ways right before her eyes. In the eye-opening days following this event, Dr. Rose Cotter is mentally stalked by an unnerving and discomforting 'smile' that refuses to go away until she inevitably is forced to take action.
This time around, we see English actress Naomi Scott as global pop sensation 'Skye Riley'. It is revealed in the trailer that the story for this film begins the moment we see Lukas Gage's character smash his face in with a barbell weight in the presence of Skye, ultimately leading her to face the same challenges that we saw Dr. Rose Cotter face in the original.
It goes without saying that Smile will go down as a modern day classic in the horror genre, with it's unique selling point being the heavy number of intense yet unpredictable jump scares scattered throughout the films duration.
Following the highly-anticipated release of the trailer for the sequel, it is more than fair to say that fans of the original can expect much more of the same when October 18th comes around as the 2 minute and 27 second preview more than succeeds in raising the heart rates of it's audience members.
Although it seems as though there are limited avenues for this film to venture down in terms of storyline, given that the concept of 'Smile' is so unique and original, it will be interesting to see what ideas the creative team behind the sequel will have come up with to differentiate the two completely.
Having said that, it would also be interesting to see the two films incorporated with one another, with the storyline for this film potentially leading into it's predecessor or vice versa.
