Joaquin Phoenix And Ridley Scott Reunite In Napoleon Trailer
The first trailer has finally been revealed for the next chapter of Ridley Scott’s impressive filmography catalogue, in the shape of “Napoleon”.
The historical drama with a run time of 2 hours and 38 minutes is set to take place in France in the year of 1793, with Joaquin Phoenix taking on the role of the former French Emperor. Phoenix will be joined by fellow actor Vanessa Kirby who will play Empress Josephine.
It goes without saying that this isn’t the first time that we have seen Phoenix and Ridley Scott collaborate on a film set together. A very young Joaquin Phoenix was nominated for an Academy Award for his work in Scott’s “Gladiator”, all the way back in 2000.
Napoleon will be Scott’s first film since The Last Duel, which received a large amount of heavy criticism, so he will be looking to add to his long list of well-received movies, which we all know he is capable of.
The story of Napoleon is said to follow the military commander’s origin and his gradual climb to the ranks of Emperor amongst the French, viewed through the perspective of his addictive and volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine (Vanessa Kirby).
Whilst we can expect two stellar performances from the two experienced and talented leads in this film, the first trailer suggests that the cinematography and costume design will also lay within the strong points of the movie.
David Scarpa is the man tasked with writing the screenplay for Ridley Scott’s Napoleon. This also won’t be the first time that Scott and Scarpa have worked together, as Scarpa was handed the writing duties on Ridley Scott’s “All The Money In The World”.
The pair are also set to work closely together to provide writing duties on 2024’s Gladiator 2, which is set to star Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan.
