Francis Ford Coppola's 'Megalopolis' Added To TIFF 2024 Lineup

The newest addition to the long and illustrious filmography of 'The Godfather' director, Francis Ford Coppola, comes through the form of 'Megalopolis', a divisive dystopian sci-fi epic that is now officially due to make an appearance at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

'Megalopolis' officially becomes one of the final additions to the film festival before it launches in the Canadian city of Toronto on September 5th before closing 10 days later on the 15th.

Alongside Coppola's sci-fi epic, Luca Guadagnino's second film of the year, 'Queer' has been added to the official lineup for the film festival. Written by 'Challengers' screenwriter, Justin Kuritzkes, the film stars Daniel Craig as an outcast American expat who becomes infatuated with a younger man throughout 1940's Mexico City.

In addition to these two films being included into the 2024 roster, it has also been announced that TIFF has programmed special screenings of Damien Chazelle's 'Whiplash' for any fans of the 2014 masterpiece. As well as special screenings of Mina Shum's 1994 comedy classic 'Double Happiness'.

'Megalopolis' is yet to impress amongst critic circles following it's cinematic debut at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Currently the film sits at a score of 53% on Rotten Tomatoes following 68 critic reviews.

The movie stars Adam Driver as a genius artist who seeks to take leap into a utopian, idealistic future for the city of Rome, until Mayor Franklin Cicero emphasises his commitment to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests and partisan warfare.
