The upcoming remake of Paul Michael Glaser's 1987 action/sci-fi 'The Running Man' is set to begin production as early as November of this year, with none other than Edgar Wright set to take up responsibility in the directors chair.
The English filmmaker, best known for his work throughout the mid-late 00's and early 10's with the 'Cornetto Trilogy' ('Shaun Of The Dead', 'Hot Fuzz', 'The World's End') is coming off the back of the worst-reviewed movie of his directorial career so far with 'Last Night In Soho', starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin Mackenzie.
Wright has mentioned numerous times in the past that if he were to remake a version of any film from the past, it would in fact be Paul Michael Glaser's 'The Running Man'. The 1987 live-action version starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the protagonist, Ben Richards.
Which begs the question... is Glen Powell the modern-day Schwarzenegger?
The story for 'The Running Man', based on an original Stephen King novel of the same title', follows a falsely convicted policeman who takes his one chance at freedom when he must forcibly participate in a televised game show where convicts must battle killers, with the winner inevitably granted with their immunity.
The upcoming production of this movie is just another addition to the long list of projects that Glen Powell has managed to find himself attached to over the next couple of years. The 35-year-old is fresh off the back of the success of Lee Isaac Chung's 'Twisters' as well as recently starring in Richard Linklater's 'Hit Man' for Netflix.
Seeing as the production for 'The Running Man' doesn't commence until November of this year, Powell is currently working on the production for his upcoming comedy tv series 'Chad Powers'. The show stars Hollywood's new leading man as the titular role, a disgraced college quarterback who walks onto a struggling souther football team to revise his recently demised career in the sport.
