Edgar Wright In Talks To Direct 'Barbarella' Remake

English filmmaker, Edgar Wright, is the most-mentioned name rumoured to take on the responsibility of directing Sony's upcoming 'Barbarella' remake, starring Sydney Sweeney.

Wright, best-known for his work on the 'Cornetto Trilogy' throughout throughout the 00's and 10's, is due to direct Glen Powell in a new adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Running Man'. The filmmakers other directorial credentials include 'Scott Pilgrim Vs The World', 'Baby Driver' and 'Last Night In Soho'.

The original 'Barbarella' production starred a young Jane Fonda and was released back in 1968. Despite not being a box-office hit at the time, the film has since received a cult-like following decades after it's initial release.

Adapted from Jean-Claude Forest's French comic book, the story of 'Barbarella' follows a female astronaut (Fonda) from the future who is sent on a mission to find and stop an evil scientist whose invention could see the destruction of the galaxy.

The production of this movie will mark the next collaboration between Sydney Sweeney and Sony Pictures, which is due to continue despite the box office tragedy of 'Madame Web'. Although the movie was a major flop, Sweeney states that she is still grateful to be a part of the project and sees it as more of a "strategic business decision".

The 26-year-old also starred in Sony Pictures' 'Anyone But You', which also ironically included 'The Running Man's Glen Powell. The movie, directed by Will Gluck, was only the first of many future collaborations between Sweeney and Sony Pictures.
