Denzel Washington Joins Gladiator Sequel

With the production of the upcoming sequel to the original Gladiator slowly

approaching, we begin to gain more and more news about the films cast and crew.

The latest addition to the already stacked cast for Ridley Scott's next project, comes through the form of none other than, Academy Award winner Denzel Washington.

It is clear too see that the well-respected British director is wasting no time assembling an all-star cast for this long-awaited sequel. With names such as Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan already attached as the lead roles for this movie, both fresh off the back of their first Oscar nominations.

This isn't the first time we have seen Scott and Washington collaborate alongside each other, as the pair worked together on 2007's American Gangster, in which the latter starred as crime boss Frank Lucas, whilst Scott directed.

Although the official role in which Washington is known to be playing in the upcoming sequel remains a mystery, a recent meeting between the actor and writer, David Scarpa, seemed to provide the idea that Mr Washington will be playing the antagonist in this film, and he was apparently swayed by the "badass" role that Scarpa crafted for him.

With the film set for official release in late November next year, it is known that the story will take place years after the original. With Paul Mescal portraying the adult version of the character Lucius, and Keoghan is in line to be the primary antagonist, Roman Emperor Geta.
