In 2021 we saw the longest ever serving James Bond put down the pistol for the final time as Daniel Craig retired his portrayal of 007 with his concluding appearance in 'No Time To Die'. And in the three years it.s been since we last saw Craig don the suit and tie, all audiences have been left to do is speculate off of rumours regarding who it will be to take the actor's place.
Whilst there have been many names thrown around by film lovers, media outlets and even bookmakers, it still seems as though a final decision is yet to be made for the future of 007.
Various A-level names within the industry such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Rege-Jean Page and Theo James have all been linked to the role in one way or another. But after Daniel Craig was seen honouring 007 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards earlier this week, he let something slip that caused quite the turning of heads.
"If you came here this evening to find out who the next James Bond is, don’t look at me, but he might be in the room… just joking… maybe I’m not?"
Given that there seemed to be an infinite amount of Hollywood heavyweights in the room that evening, this barely narrows it down. However, amongst these attendees were the likes of Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal and Nicholas Hoult - three actors who have also seen themselves become the subject of a spotlight in recent years with their potential links to the role of James Bond.
In recent weeks, several producers behind the creation of the James Bond franchise said that they are actively seeking for the next person to tackle the reigns of 007. And that in their search, their attention turns to actors who are in their 30's.
Whilst this rules out long-term contenders such as Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill and Idris Elba, it doesn't open the door for several younger actors who would be willing to commit to the 15+ year role. Based on fan favourite selections in recent years, Theo James, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Norton would certainly put a smile on both the audience member's faces as well as the producers.
