The time of year has finally come in which the Hollywood Foreign Press Association come out of their shells to announce their favourite artistic collaborations in film and television throughout the past 12 months.

Although the recent controversy regarding the HFPA once caused us to worry over the future of the annual Golden Globes awards, the ceremony lives on. With the next awards night taking place on the 7th of January 2024.

This year's Golden Globe nominations leader comes through the form of Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie'. The film, found to be a cultural phenomenon following it's summer release, is nominated for nine awards such as Musical or Comedy Motion Picture, Screenplay of a Motion Picture and Director of a Motion Picture.

Cloesly following Gerwig's 'Barbie' is it's partner in crime and box-office ally, 'Oppenheimer'. The historical biopic, following the true-life story of Robert J. Oppenheimer and the invention of the atomic bomb is recognised across 8 different categories, such as Drama Motion Picture and Actor in a Drama Motion Picture for Cillian Murphy.

Barbie and Oppenheimer are also two of the very first films to feature in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award following their recent global success. This is the first year that the vategory has been integrated into the awards ceremony, in order to acknowledge films that bring audiences to the cinemas.

The leading and supporting cast of Todd Haynes' 'May December' all received Golden Globe nominations, with Charles Melton and Julianne Moore being recognised in supporting categories, whilst Natalie Portman was nominated in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy).

Greta Gerwig's directing nomination for her work on 'Barbie' is her first at the Golden Globes, following recent snubs for 'Little Women' and 'Lady Bird'. The actress-turned-filmmaker is also recognised alongside her partner, Noah Baumbach, for Screenplay of a Motion Picture (Barbie).

Netflix holds the lead for most nominations for a distributer, with the likes of 'The Crown', 'The Diplomat' and Bradley Cooper's 'Meastro' each playing their part to secure the streaming service 28 nominations. Whereas Warner Bros. Discovery sits as a close second with 27 nominations. It's haul including titles such as 'Barbie', 'Succession' and 'Barry'.
